Speed Demons FAQ
Q: I don't like the controls! Why aren't they better?
A: If you think the controls are too floaty or unresponsive, definitely try increasing the sensitivity. That is available in the Options->Controls menu.
Also keep in mind every car handles differently. The best handling cars in the first 5 chapters are the LTZ and the Mono. Other cars' handling can also be improved by upgrading them (and using the points on Acceleration + Handling).
Q: How do I upgrade my vehicles?
A: On the main menu (with the big Speed Demons logo), select Garage. Or from the Chapter Listing page, select the garage icon in the upper left.
Once you've purchased an upgrade point for a vehicle (using Coins), you need to assign the point to either Acceleration+Handling or Maximum Speed. Select the icons in the vehicle list and toggle through the settings. Each vehicle can have a maximum of 2 upgrade points, and you can reconfigure the points in-between races.
Before a race starts, you can change the upgrade choices by tapping on the left/right of the vehicle pictured (for races where upgrades can be changed). Tap on the left of the vehicle to cycle the Tires/Acceleration upgrades, or the right side to cycle the Speed upgrade.
Q: Which upgrade category is better for my vehicle?
A: Both provide a benefit, and it really depends on the event. For Rampage, you'll almost certainly want Acceleration+Handling. For a Race, you'll probably want Max Speed, but if the event features lots of traffic, Acceleration + Handling might be better.
You can reconfigure the points for a vehicle by going back to the Garage or by changing them on the Race Start scrreen. So don't stress about which is better.
Q: Do I need to upgrade my vehicle to 3-star a Difficult event?
A: No. But some Difficult events are very hard to defeat without having upgraded. Even with 1 or 2 upgrade points, Difficult events are still no walk in the park.
Q: Which vehicles should I upgrade?
A: Upgrades are completely optional, and not required for any vehicle. You will eventually have enough Coins to purchase 1 upgrade point for every vehicle, with enough left over to double-upgrade a few vehicles, if you want to spread your points "most efficiently".
We recommend upgrading two kinds of vehicles:
1) Vehicles you enjoy driving and want to experience more fully.
2) Vehicles in events that you're having trouble completing (and that you really want to complete).
Q: When does the game end? Do I have to get all the stars?
A: It never really ends, and there is no ending screen. If you get all the stars in every event, you'll see your completion percentage at 100%.
The game contains 10 Chapters plus a Prologue, Epilogue, 2 Grand Prix groups, and Appendix A + B. There's also a Weekly Festival with 30 different sets of 4 races. The Weekly Festival changes every week, and those events give you preset upgrades.
Q: Why is there a 30fps option?
A: A couple low-end devices default to it being on because the game is too intense to run at 60fps. For other devices, Speed Demons should run at 60fps fairly consistently. On the other hand, running at 30fps lowers battery usage, and some players might want to have more retro-style graphics (turn off other graphics settings too). Note that the game also supports 120hz screens, such as the iPhone 13 or later.
